Television Coverage

The local television company of the time Television South West became aware of his work from articles in the local press. A film crew was dispatched to spend half a day with Philip at his home in Paignton, to record his story, the work he was doing and his attitudes to life and to his illness. They remained there for the day.

As a consequence a series of 'Postscript' programmes were made. These were meditational programmes broadcast at the end of the day, designed to give comfort and hope. The director, John Bartlett, had recognised in Philip someone of unusual quality who had an inspiring message to give. The presenter, Irene Wyndham, conducted the interviews with great sensitivity and empathy, skilfully leading Philip to reveal fascinating insights about himself in facing up to his ordeal.

Philip became a respected figure in the studio. When he appeared at the television studio to record what was to be his final programme, towards the end of his last, short remission, Philip presented John Bartlett with a gift.

Th piece was entitled 'Crusty Seed Pod'. One that had germinated and burst open dispersing its seed around. To Philip, it represented what 'Postcript' had done for him and others. For a period it became adopted as the symbol for the programme.

[In time we hope to be able to show on this site some short sequences and captures from the television programmes.]
